Q&A: Do I need an Attorney?

Question:

Do I need a defense attorney for a misdemeanor?  I am 19 years old and was at a party that the police raided. I blew a .025 and received a ticket and now I have to go to court.
Answer:
Yes. A misdemeanor offense carries a maximum sentence of 3 years probation, up to 6 months in the county jail as a term of probation and up to $2,500 in fines (+ surcharges). Misdemeanors can also impact your life in many others ways (too many ways to name here). It’s always wise to retain counsel when faced with a criminal charge regardless of the nature of the offense. Good luck!
