Question:
What is a grand jury indictment?

Answer:
A grand jury indictment is a formal method of charging someone with a felony offense.  These proceedings are held in secrecy before a grand jury.  The grand jury is is comprised of members of the community.  At the hearing, the state will present evidence to the grand jury and the grand jury must decide if probable cause exists to charge the defendant with a crime.  If the grand jury agrees to charge the defendant with a crime, they will issue an indictment.
