What do a charge for trafficking stolen goods hold? first time.  my son has a lil brother that stole d item, and he got a letter in the mail. We called, and flag pd said to come in to tlk. I said wed get ahold of an attorney first. but we tlkd to dem, and dey showed camera pixs of him n his bro in d store. He is special needs, and and doesnt comprehend consequences and hes under drs care. Hes been under my watch as he always home helping me w his bby sister. I am disabled and hes the only one who helps me everywhere i go and at home. Hes never been in to any trouble, has a clear recoed cuz hes tryna finish high sch n wants to go to college. We r worried. This question depends upon whether or not your son has any prior felony convictions. Trafficking in stolen property may be charged as either a class 3 or a class 2 felony depending upon the degree. If your son does not have any prior convictions and he is charged with a class 3 felony, his offense carries a maximum sentence of 8.75 years in the department of corrections. If he has no prior felony convictions and he is charged with a class 2 felony, his offense carries a maximum sentence of 12.5 years in the department of corrections. However, if your son had no prior felony convictions, he is probation eligible. If given probation, he may be ordered to serve up to one year in the county jail as a term of probation.
