Q&A: Phoenix Criminal Defense – Right to Counsel

Question:

if you have a court appointed lawyer and you want to fire them because you don’t feel like they are not doing all they can can ajudge deny you that right?

Answer:

Technically, a judge can deny your request for new counsel. Although you are entitled to court appointed counsel if you are facing jail or prison time, you are not entitled to the attorney of your choice. The judge makes the determination for new counsel on a case by case basis. Best of luck.
